January 10 | Ghana, Africa: Sovereign Global Mission
Accra is the capital of Ghana, a nation home to 22,931,299 people. Communication can be difficult in this country because the people don’t all speak the same language; over 12 languages or dialects will be found. The climate word is “hot.” It may be wet on the coast or dry in the inland areas, but it is always hot. Historically, Accra was a port city known for its trading of gold and slaves. To protect their trade, the people built forts. Later, the British came in and made British forts, long after the trading of gold and slaves had ended. Many of these are still standing. After lunch I went to a school to learn about young people in Ghana. It was sad hearing that so many had lost parents to HIV/AIDS. Many programs, including the Sovereign Global Mission, are in place in the schools to educate students about the problems they face and ways to provide for successful futures. The goal at the mission is to help rehabilitate children in and around Ghana.
