February 1 | Arrive in Rwanda, Africa
I landed in Kigali, the capital city of Rwanda. Rwanda is a landlocked nation of about 9,900,000 people. The majority of the population is Hutu, but there are also many Tutsi and Two. Rwanda has a temperate climate that even sees frost and snow occasionally in the mountains. The terrain is savannah grassland and the population is over 90% rural. The primary economic activity is subsistence agriculture. Rwanda has been facing many threatening challenges over the past years. A civil war which ended in 1994, deforestation due to the need for wood fuel, overgrazing of land and soil erosion, and a growing problem with poaching have all left the nation with many problems it can not solve alone. I will be visiting Mayange and learning more of the Millennium Project while here.
