February 18 | Tanzania, Africa: Terrawatu
Terrawatu. The name comes from the Italian word “terra”, meaning earth, and “watu,” the Swahili word for people. Terrawatu is a charitable, non-governmental organization that works to combine indigenous and modern technologies to improve life in Tanzania. There are 3 goals to be met: protect and improve the traditional health care system of the Maasai; connect classrooms in Tanzania to the rest of the world to improve their educational opportunites; and encourage cross-culture journeys. I learned this as I helped with the building of a classroom at Natema Primary School, Arumeru District, Tanzania. This will help end the over-crowding in the school and improve the quality of a student's learning environment. There are currently 100 students in each classroom. Terrawatu hopes to complete the three-classroom project by December 2007.

Some of the students told me that I should go out and see the wildlife; that’s my next adventure.
