February 22 | Tanzania, Africa: Safari
A Tanzania safari. I’ve read about those but never thought I’d actually go on one! My first destination was Serengeti National Park, the country's largest and most famous reserve. There are 5,700 square miles of plains stretching in all directions. The Serengeti is home to one of the most diverse wild animal populations on Earth. I spent the morning watching large herds of zebra, wildebeest, gazelle and their predators. Later, I traveled to Lake Manyara National Park. It is filled with dense forests, bush plains, cliffs, and hot springs. It is also home to impalas, elephants, giraffes, pink flamingos, yellow-billed storks, and the world's largest concentration of baboons. South of Lake Manyara is Tarangire National Park, which boasts a large elephant population. Tanzania is also home to Africa's highest mountain, Mount Kilimanjaro, whose snowcapped peak soars to 19,340 feet. I made a quick stop there on my way back from my safari. I would have loved to have climbed some of it, but my guide didn’t think I was skilled enough. Still, it was impressive to look at. Today was really great. I had a wonderful photographer’s safari adventure!
