March 2 | Tanzania, Africa: Lake Victoria
My final outing in Tanzania took me to Lake Victoria. It is the world's second largest freshwater lake covering an area of 67,850 sq km. This huge lake, almost the size of the Republic of Ireland, forms the headwaters of the River Nile. Three nations share the waters of the lake: Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. There were fishermen everywhere, but my attention was on the fantastic birds. Flamingos and the African fish eagle were my favorites. The fish eagle has such a distinctive call that the local people say it is the “voice of Africa.” . I will never forget it! Now it’s time to pack again and move along; Malawi is next in line!
