March 10 | Malawi, Africa: Clinton-Hunter Development Initiative
I learned today that Malawi is a nation of over 13 million people, and half of that number is below 16 years old. This nation suffers from poverty and disease; life expectancy is not long. Malawi’s economy is primarily subsistence agriculture, although they do grow for export tobacco, sugarcane, cotton, tea, Macadamia nuts, cattle, and goats. Still, this is the poorest nation in Africa, and without help like that from the Clinton-Hunter Development Initiative, survival would be difficult. That program is working to help farmers grow more food, improve water supplies and sanitation, and help local villagers to construct hospitals and run health clinics.
