August 22 | New York: Alliance for a Healthier Generation
Today is my first day to work with the Alliance for a Healthier Generation. The Alliance works with communities to combat the childhood obesity problem. Tony told me that obese children are experiencing health problems and diseases that we would normally associate with adults. Because of this, the Alliance has constructed several programs to provide leadership, support, and education to all children in the hopes that they will control their health and establish lifelong healthy habits. Tony said that the Alliance will positively affect the places that can make a difference to a child’s health: homes, schools, restaurants, doctors’ offices, and the community.
I looked at some of the cool things that the Alliance was working on. One program, the Let’s Just Play Go Healthy Challenge, really interested me. The Go Healthy Challenge is an on-air, online, and community-based movement that empowers kids to take the lead in making their lives, schools, and communities healthier. The goal of the Go Healthy Challenge is to engage all kids to eat better and exercise more. The whole program was geared to kids like me and was partnered with Nickelodeon, which I watch all the time. That was too cool!
