August 28 | New York Sight-seeing
New York is the cultural and economic capital of the United States if not the world. Each culture contained within the five boroughs of New York merge into one unified cultural metropolis. I guess that is why New York has always been called the “Great Melting Pot.” I visited Chinatown and saw a parade, and Tony gave me a first-rate tour of Little Italy. And what fifth grader could ever resist FAO Schwartz Toy Store or Macy’s Department Store … lots of toys, lots of fun! Grand Central Station was so exciting. I rode the subway (my first) to Wall Street, home to the stock market (where all the business is done), and rode a ferry to Staten Island. I also visited the historic Coney Island Amusement Park in Brooklyn, where I had an authentic coney hot dog. My day turned a little sad whenever I went to Ground Zero. I never got the opportunity to see the World Trade Center Towers, but being there sent chills down my spine. I will never forget it! Oh, I also found out today who was placed in Grant’s Tomb. Can you guess? If you don’t know, then I’m not going to tell you.
