October 27 | Vietnam: Sight-seeing
Anh Bu and I have walked and ridden for hours, looking at temples and pagodas. We began with One Pillar Pagoda, which was built in 1049 A.D. and is shaped like a lotus leaf. Then, we went further back in time to the Tran Quoc Pagoda, possibly dated 544-548 A.D. Both of these are Buddhist pagodas. Finally, we saw the Quan Thanh Temple, one of the Four Guards of old Thang Long. It was built during the reign of King Ly Thai To (1010-1028 A.D.), but it has been renovated. I am exhausted from all my sightseeing and could spend another week here, but I am to be in Nepal soon. Do you think they’ll let me climb any of those mountains?
