December 7 | Czech Republic: Fair Housing Issues
Since Prague is a large city with over one million people, affordable housing can be a problem. Certain groups of people, especially Romani families have not always been treated fairly. Many of them have had to evacuate their homes and relocate to other places in the Czech Republic that had poor living conditions. This has created many problems for cities and has created tension between ethnic groups living close together. The Center for Housing Rights and Evictions and the European Roma Rights Center organizations are working to make sure that people are treated fairly and have equal housing rights. They will work together to present a report to the United Nations Commissioner for Human Rights.
