Malawi Flag
Malawi is located in southeastern Africa and is bordered by Zambia, Tanzania, and Mozambique.  It is one of the poorest countries in the world and residents make only about $580 a year.  Malawi declared its independence from the United Kingdom in 1964.  Tobacco, tea, and sugar are its most important crops.

Malawi’s capital is Lilongwe, and Blantyre is its largest city.

One of Malawi’s biggest problems is the HIV/Aids disease.  There are over a million orphans in Malawi, because many of the children’s parents have died from the disease.

Project Citizen is a program that originated in America.  It will be presented at the Domasi College of Education as a method of getting teachers and students involved in their own communities.  They research public policy issues that they care about and use the information to improve their own communities.
