The Arts

“Art tells the story of our past and inspires our future.  Our State is blessed with many talented artists in every medium.  Their ability to create pieces that speak to their fellow Arkansans on an emotional level is what makes them unique.  Art connects people, and as First Lady, I want to support Arkansas artists and help foster a thriving creative environment within our State.

First Lady Ginger Beebe

As First Lady, Ginger Beebe promotes Arkansas artists and artisans in many areas, including theatre, music, visual arts, and other forms of artistic expression.  In an effort to showcase Arkansas artists, she and the members of the Arkansas Governor’s Mansion Association published an Arkansas Artists Engagement Calendar in 2008 and 2009.  This year, the Mansion Association selected 40 works of art from over 250 submissions to be displayed at the Governor’s Mansion.  The works are placed in the lower atrium for public viewing and will be rotated quarterly.

Mrs. Beebe also serves on the boards of the Arkansas Repertory Theatre, the Performing Arts Center on the Square in Searcy, and is a member of the Committee of 100, which helps promote the Ozark Folk Center in Mountain View.  As a Master Gardener, Mrs. Beebe co-chaired the Hospitality Committee for the 2007 International Master Gardeners’ Conference held in Little Rock.

Mrs. Beebe is also a member of the Creative Economy Advisory Panel.  Funded by the Winthrop Rockefeller Foundation, the Arkansas Creative Economy Project is a multi-year project aimed at identifying and enhancing the state's creative assets.  The concept of a creative economy combines aesthetics and design with economic development in our State.
